Mental Health Now 2026 Candidate Designation, Retzke Reaffirms Commitment to Expanding Mental Health Access in Ohio

Retzke has received the Mental Health Now 2026 Candidate Badge, recognizing a public commitment to strengthening access to affordable, timely, and community-based mental health care across Ohio. The badge is part of a national initiative highlighting candidates who prioritize mental health policy and is not an endorsement.

The designation reflects a broader effort to elevate mental health as a core public policy issue, including expanding access to care, improving early intervention systems, and addressing persistent gaps in services in rural and working-class communities.

The commitment aligns with policy priorities focused on expanding community mental health centers, strengthening integration of mental health services in schools, and improving crisis response systems in coordination with first responders. It also underscores the need to address ongoing workforce shortages in behavioral health care to ensure consistent access across all regions of northwest Ohio.

Retzke emphasized that mental health access must be treated as essential infrastructure rather than an optional service.

“Too many people are forced to wait until a crisis point before they can get help, and too many communities still lack the resources they need close to home,” Retzke said. “Mental health care should be accessible early, locally, and without financial barriers that keep people from getting support when they need it.”

The initiative reflects a continued focus on strengthening public systems that support long-term community stability and economic well-being, with mental health access treated as a foundational component of both.
