Retzke Demands Year-Round Presence from Public Officials in District 89

SANDUSKY, Ohio — The Retzke for Representative campaign, led by candidate for Ohio House District 89, Easton Retzke, on Wednesday called for a higher standard of consistent engagement from elected officials and candidates, saying public service requires regular presence in community spaces where residents are raising concerns.
“Leadership is about showing up consistently where constituents are speaking, where local issues are being raised, and where people are looking for accountability,” Retzke said. “That cannot be limited to selective appearances or politically convenient events. Residents deserve representatives who are present across the full range of community spaces, not just within partisan or insider political environments.”
The campaign said elected officials have a responsibility to maintain ongoing engagement with working families, neighborhood organizations, civic forums, and other community settings where residents discuss issues such as cost of living, infrastructure, and representation.
Retzke said when public officials prioritize certain political or insider events over broader community engagement, it raises questions about whether all constituents are receiving equal attention.
“House District 89 deserves a representative who shows up everywhere the community is speaking, not selectively, not occasionally, and not only when it benefits political image or access,” he said. “People across this district are dealing with real challenges, and they deserve consistent access to the people who seek to represent them.”
He said effective representation requires sustained visibility across the district, including attendance at public forums, listening sessions, and civic events open to residents.
“Representation should not be episodic,” Retzke said. “It should be constant, accessible, and rooted in the lived experiences of the people in this district.”
Moving forward, the campaign said it will continue prioritizing direct engagement with constituents through community meetings, local events, and ongoing outreach focused on working families.
